THIS IS BREAKING NEWS...
It took less than 24 hours for it to happen, but the expected has occurred.
In the wake of the New York Mets moving relief pitcher Francisco Rodriguez to the Disqualified List and the conversion of his contract to non-guaranteed status after Rodriguez underwent surgery yesterday to repair torn ligaments in his right thumb, the MLB Players Association has filed a grievance against the New York Mets and the Commissioner's Office challenging yesterday's actions. The injury occurred when he struck his longtime girlfriend's father in an altercation last week.
Because the grievance alleges material breaches of Francisco's contract (including non-payment of salary), the Basic Agreement requires that the matter be processed expeditiously. No hearing date has been set.
