Team TotalsThe Biz of Baseball has been updated with new data....

With the recent addition of our MLB Salary Database, those wanting to see how much players make for a given year has been well received. But, we had more salary data on hand, and after numerous requests, we have added it.

The salary database now has a button labeled “Team Totals”. With it, you can now get Opening Day payroll information for each club from 1985 to the present. On top of that, if you select any of the years from 1999 to the present you will get not only the Opening Day payroll, but the club’s end of year payroll; the salary for the 40 man roster. This EOY payroll information has been highly requested, and we’re proud to make it available to readers.

EoY salary
written by puck, February 06, 2010
How is EoY salary defined? Is that the year's salary for all the players on the 40-man, plus any commitments to departed players, less money paid by other teams? So, players picked up at midseason count for the amount of their salary pro-rated with their time for the new team?

What is included in the EoY
written by Maury Brown, February 06, 2010
Figures are for 40-man rosters and include salaries and prorated shares of signing bonuses, earned incentive bonuses, non-cash compensation, buyouts of unexercised options and cash transactions. In some cases, parts of salaries that are deferred are discounted to reflect present-day values.

Why are the Dodgers and Mets not included in team totals?

Thanks for pointing this out. There are actually 3 clubs missing from the output. We're working on this, and I will have an update, once corrected.

Thanks again,
Maury

It was the Dodgers and Mets... and the Cubs were the mystery team.

Bug fixed-- thanks for noticing.
