Salary Arbitration

MLB.com's Ken Gurnick tweeted news of the Dodgers one-year deal for Chad Billingsey.  Showing how much money is made for players in the salary arbitration process, Billingsley made $475,000 last year. This season, with just over 3 years of Major League service time, his $3.85 million salary will be an increase of 711 percent from last year.

The 25-year old righty slipped a little in 2009, but has strung together three consecutive years of excellent work on the hill for the Dodgers. Averaging a 13-9 record with excellent peripherals over that span, Billingsley looks to regain his early 2009 form in the coming season. Through June, he had posted a 9-4 record with a 3.12 ERA before stumbling in the second half of the season to finish with an ERA over four for the first time in his career. Billingsley was named to the 2009 NL All-Star team at mid-season.

Billingsley's signing reduces the number of arbitration eligible players to 131. The Dodgers remaining arbitration eligible players (Jonathan Broxton, Andre Ethier, James Loney, Russell Martin, Hong-Chih Kuo and George Sherrill) have until today to file.
