Today, the 10-day salary arbitration filing period ends, and with it, expect a fair number of contracts to be reached.
Yesterday saw six salary arbitration eligible players reach contracts ahead of the deadline:
- Hideki Okajima – Red Sox (1/$2.075 million)
- Clint Barmes – Rockies (1/$3.225 million)
- Taylor Buchholz – Rockies (1/$1.055 million)
- Jorge de la Rosa – Rockies (1/ $5.6 million)
- Josh Johnson – Marlins (4/$39 million)
- Melky Cabrera – Braves (1/$3.1 million)
Already, Padres closer Heath Bell has signed a 1-year, $ 4million deal, and sources report that the Dodgers have reached 1-year deals with Matt Kemp and Chad Billingsley.
In November, there were 210 salary arbitration eligible players. That figure will be below 130 by the end of today. Last year, 111 players filed for salary arbitration (see the complete listing from 2009).
