Jayson Stark translates an ESPN Deportes story by Enrique Rojas stating that Fernando Rodney has signed a two year contract with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim for $11 million. The 32-year old righty closed games last season with Detroit.
The Angels are paying for save totals, and Rodney amassed plenty of them last season. He also posted his worst rate stats in five years last season. His K-rates dwindled to average levels, without a corresponding dip in his walk-rate. His ERA has been north of four for each of the last three years. He may be used in tandem with incumbent Angels closer Brian Fuentes, or as a setup man. Detroit lost both Rodney and Brandon Lyon from their bullpen via free agency and are expected to tab Joel Zumaya to close games in 2010.
