Chris Coghlan
Chris Coghlan of the Marlins is
seen by many as having a good
chance of winning the NL Rookie
of the Year award.

At 2pm ET today, an annual rite of passage kicks off as the Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA) doles out their selection for the American and National League Rookie of the Year.

Cutting to the chase, we're going to say that the BBWAA will go with Elvis Andrus of the Texas Rangers for the AL and for the NL, Chris Coghlan of the Florida Marlins.

The rest of the award schedule is as follows (all times ET)

  • Tuesday, Nov. 17—AL Cy Young Award
  • Wednesday, Nov. 18—AL and NL Manager of the Year awards
  • Thursday, Nov. 19—NL Cy Young Award
  • Monday, Nov. 23—AL Most Valuable Player award
  • Tuesday, Nov. 24—NL Most Valuable Player award

The BBWAA awards are considered the premier awards for MLB players, although they are not associated with MLB nor the MLBPA, the latter of which hands out their own awards -- peers make the selections.

The awards by the BBWAA are always a hot topic of conversation, and this year should be no exception.
