Joe GirardiJoe Girardi has interviewed for a second time with the Washington Nationals. The report indicates that the Nationals are serious about the former Florida Marlin manager as a replacement for the departed Frank Robinson.

As reported:

Girardi also is a candidate to manage the Chicago Cubs, a team for which he played catcher. His Chicago ties are strong -- he was born in Peoria, Ill., and played at Northwestern -- and if the Nationals want to hire him, they could end up in a tug of war with the Cubs, who would like to wrap up their hiring process by the end of next week.

The Nationals have offered no timetable to make a hire since the search began, and General Manager Jim Bowden and President Stan Kasten remain mum on the process.

Girardi was recently voted The Sporting News NL Manager of the Year by his fellow National League manager peers.
