Ticket strips for Round One of the 2009 World Baseball Classic will go on sale to the public on Monday, November 17, World Baseball Classic Inc. (WBCI) announced today. WBCI, the tournament’s organizing entity, has also announced the complete Official 2009 Tournament Schedule, set to begin in Tokyo, Japan on Thursday, March 5, 2009.

Ticket strips for the individual pools of Round One will consist of six tickets, one to each of the six games played in one of the four international first round venues. These strips will be available for purchase online at worldbaseballclassic.com, powered by MLB.com, the official website of Major League Baseball, as well as online and by phone in three of the four local markets. Round One games will be played entirely outside of the United States, in the Tokyo Dome in Tokyo, Japan; Estadio Foro Sol in Mexico City, Mexico; the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada; and Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The release of the Official 2009 Tournament Schedule unveils the first-round match-ups for the second edition of the World Baseball Classic. Defending Tournament Champion Team Japan will open the 2009 event against Team China in the Tokyo Dome on March 5. The tournament’s opening round will feature the following initial match-ups and will follow a double-elimination format:
